Exploring Muhu: Handicrafts, Culture, and the Inspiration Behind the Muhu Collection

During my last visit to Muhu, I discovered some incredible locations that are truly remarkable and really wanted to share with anyone traveling to Muhu. Whether you're planning your first trip or returning to explore more, these places are must-visits. I remember feeling so much joy when I first saw these incredible locations and couldn't help myself but purchase so many little delights. The Männiku Handicraft Workshop is where I purchased a little Muhu keyring, which is the inspiration behind the Keyring Collection. I still have my original one today!

Here are some key spots to explore on your next trip to Muhu:

  • Muhu Käsitöö – Your gateway to Muhu. When arriving by ferry, this handicraft store is the perfect place to start your journey. Google Map Link
  • Muhu Muusikatalu – A beautiful venue where music and tradition come together. Google Map Link
  • Muhu Pagarid – Home to Muhu’s famous bread, this bakery is a must-visit for a taste of the island’s traditional flavours and the famous Muhu leib (black bread). Google Map Link
  • Meierei Handicraft Store – An abundant store of traditional handicrafts, with items unique to Muhu, had to stop myself from buying too much! Google Map Link
  • Männiku Handicraft Workshop – A paradise for craft lovers, featuring stunning Muhu embroidery and handmade goods, with the owner walking you through every piece. Google Map Link
  • Muhu Museum (Koguva Village) – A well-preserved village that shows insight into Muhu’s rich history and heritage. Google Map Link

Each of these places played a role in inspiring the Muhu Collection for Estonian Designs AU, a way to bring a piece of Muhu’s majik into everyday life. Click the links to explore these locations and plan your own journey through Muhu.
