Collection: Vastseliina

Vastseliina parish (Võru:  Vahtsõliina kihlkund ) was located in historical Võru County. The independent Vastseliina parish is considered to have been established in 1626, when the Lutheran pastor Christiern Henrici took office. There was a church in Vastseliina castle probably from its founding in 1342. The Vastseliina parish church was located near the castle until it was destroyed in the Northern War. In 1725, a new church was built in more or less its current location in the village of Külaoru.

The folk costumes of Vastseliina parish belong to the group of South Estonian folk costumes.
