Weaving the Stories of the Baltic. One Thread at a Time
Join us in Carlton, NSW for hands-on workshops celebrating the traditional craft of Estonian and Baltic weaving. Marissa has travelled to Estonia many times, attending craft camps and learning directly from master weavers. Knowing that not everyone can make that journey, she brings this heritage home to share with you.
Blending her love of teaching with a deep passion for traditional folk weaving, Baltic Weaving was born, a space to connect, create, and keep these ancient stories alive, one thread at a time.
Weaving Traditions
In the Baltic region, weaving has always been about more than making. Each band tells a story through colour and pattern, red for protection, green for growth, white for spirit. These pieces once tied clothing, marked celebrations, and connected people to family and place. Each region in Estonia has their own unique patterns but the techniques remained the same across the Baltics.
In our workshops, you’ll learn these traditional techniques and the stories behind them, while creating your own pattern, blending tradition with your own hands and meaning.
