Collection: Rõuge

Rõuge parish (in German Kirchspiel Rauge ) was one of the parishes of Old Võromaa. Rõuge's neighboring parishes were Hargla, Karula, Urvaste, Kanepi, Põlva and Vastseliina. The only parish in Old Võromaa that Rõuge had no contact with was Räpina parish. Rõuge bordered Latvia to the south.

The area of present-day Rõuge belonged to the Vagatavalve parish of the historical Ugandi county. The earliest records of Rõuge manor date back to 1544. This time is also considered the beginning of the church parish. In 1783, the present-day Rõuge parish was formed, which was one of the largest in Estonia in terms of area.

The folk costumes of the Rõuge parish belong to the South Estonian folk costume group.
