Collection: Kihnu

Kihnu Island is one of the few places in Estonia where folk costumes are still widely worn today. The Kihnu folk costumes known today have been worn since the second half of the 19th century, when the seafaring of Kihnu men intensified and contacts with the mainland increased. Women and girls wear körte , sitsi jackets and scarves on a daily basis. Men and boys have remained faithful to wearing sweaters , troides and socks, kapõtatõ .

Kihnu island belonged to the Tõstamaa parish.
